It does not have to be this way.  The kittens meow and reach through the cage bars to get your attention while adults nap to escape the stress.  A gorgeous adult cat cowers in its cage waiting for her owner who will never return for her because he cannot afford the pet deposit at the apartment where he is moving after losing his house because he lost his job and cannot make the mortgage payments.   Puppies bark playfully and retreat to mom if you approach their kennel.  A big dog dances in his kennel hoping that you will take him out for a little exercise or give him a treat.  Moms try to nurse their little ones and protect them from the chaos.

You are at BARC (City of Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation & Care), a high-kill facilityyou know that the large majority of these sweet pets will not get out alive.

It does not have to be this way.  Frisky Paws Rescue tries to make a difference by raising money to help defray the costs of fostering (food, medicines, surgeries, grooming, etc.) some of these great pets until they find a new home.  Frisky Paws also hopes to help identify and work to resolve some of the root causes for the high number of homeless pets in Houston.

We work hard to find good homes for all of the cats and dogs that we rescue from BARC.
